Kalpana Chawla (First Indian woman Astronaut space from NASA) 1962-2003
Kalpana Chawla was an Indian -American astronaut and the first woman of Indian origin to go to space.
She was born on March 17, 1962 , in Karnal , Haryana, India
from Punjab Engineering College before moving to the United States to pursue further education and later moved to the United States to pursue higher education.
obtained a Master of Science degree in aerospace enggineering from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder.
She started working for NASA in 1988 as someone who studied things . Then in 1994, she was chosen to train as an astronaut . She went to space for the first time in 1997 on a trip callled the Space Shuttle Columbia and then again in 2003 .
she was a part of the crew of STS-107, which was tragically killed ,when the Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated during re-entry into the Earth’s atmospheres
Kalpana Chawla’ss life and achievements continue to inspire young people, especially girls , in India and around the world to pursue careers in science , technology , engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields..
Kalpana Chawla faced struggles several throughout her life and career , but she persevered and achieved great success as an astronaut . Some of the struggles she faced include
1. Gender Discrimination – As a woman in a male ]dominated field , Chawla faced discrimination and bias . She had to work hard to prove herself and earn the respect of her colleagues.
2. Cultural Challenges – she faced cultural challenges as an Indian woman working in the United States . She had to navigate the differencess in language , customs and social norms and often felt like an outsider .
Financial Struggles – she came from a medium family background so had to work hard to finance her education . She took out loans and worked part-time jobs to pay for her college and graduate studies .
4. Professional Challenges – faced a lot many professional challenges , including long hours , intense competition and the pressure to succeed . She had to continually develop her skills , knowledge to stay competitive in the field of aerospace engineering .
Despite these challenges , Chawla remained focused and determined to achieve her goals . She believed that in power of education and hard work and her dedication to her work as an astronaut and her passion for space exploration inspired many others.
In 2003 , she was part of the crew of the Space Shuttle Columbia’s ill-fated STS-107 mission,which ended tragically when the shuttle broke apart during re-entry, killing all seven crew members .
Chawla’s death was a great loss to the scientific community and she is remembered as a pioneering astronaut who pushed the boundarie of space exploration .
Chawla was known as for her passion flying and her dedication to her work as an astronaut .
She was a role model of many young peoples , especially girls and women , who aspired to careers in science , technology , engineering and mathematics ( STEM ) fields . Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of scientists and explorers
